That’s a long way to ride a bike in a year, but two Sweat365 members have just passed the milestone. Chris hit is 2008 goal on 8th December, while CJ at Results In Action got there on 10th December.
What does 5,000 miles mean, and how do you get there though?
Well, as CJ put it, it’s just like eating an elephant - you do it one bite at a time! Think of it this way:
- 5,000 miles is only just over 400 miles a month
- That’s 200 a fortnight
- Or just 100 a week
- If you have a reasonable bike commute, say, ten miles each way, you’d do that in a year easily
Breaking a challenge down like this into manageable chunks is a great way to see that what at first seems like an impossible goal . . . turns out to be within your grasp.
We’re coming to the end of the year now. So maybe it’s a good time to think about what you want to achieve in 2009. There are probably people already blogging on sweat365 who share your goal.
With a consistent, human-scale effort from you, and the sweat365 community at your side, who knows what you’ll achieve?

CJ says:
Thanks for the recognition.
When I first started in January I wasn’t sure I’d complete as I am 43 years old, married with both family and professional commitments. But keeping focused on weekly targets rather then the big picture was enough to keep me challenged while not feeling overwhelmed.
I hope others just go for it, no matter their age or current fitness levels. Just keep at it one bite at a time…

Chris Pine says:
Yes, Thankyou for the recognition. I, like CJ, am also 43 years old. Shoot, like George Foreman we are just getting started.

Was a very special goal for me and am delighted I was able to complete it. By The way CJ and I were in cahoots.Even though in different states we have been spurring each other along all year!
Here is to the comning year and the goals we will strive for !
