The First Steps of Becoming a Runner

According to Josh Clark, the primary thing you need to do while starting running is just be patient with it. Take your time and let yourself get used to running. When starting out you should try and follow these guidelines

  • Don’t run as far as you think you should

Yoga in relation to running

Yoga is a great addition to your training schedule to give you a leg up and to help injury prevention. Before your run you want to focus on getting your blood moving rather than stretching too hard which could actually hurt you. After your run, once your body is warmed up, try deep stretches for the hips and hamstrings. To learn more check out this article by Molly Raisch at runnersworld.com

Focus instead of multitask

John Bingham wrote an article about trying to improve your running not by managing time, but by managing energy. If you focus on one thing often it will lead you to be better all around. It may be difficult at first, but Bingham explains how you should try to engage yourself fully on one thing your trying to get out of running instead of overwhelming yourself with too many goals at once.
