Embedded Video Support
Many of you have probably noticed that you can embed video into your Training Journal at Sweat365.com. But you might have tried it, using the traditional “embed” codes found at most video services only to discover it doesn’t quite work the way you expected. Well, since we recently added support for a couple new video services, we thought it would make sense to explain how to embed a video into your Sweat365.com journal.
Embed code garbledygook
Have you ever clicked on one of those embed links and seen a bunch of crazy looking garbledygook? What is that stuff? Well, it’s complicated HTML code that embeds flash or some other browser plugin to actually display the video. It usually looks something like this:
<object width="400" height="300"> <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /> <param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=3488957&server=vimeo.com& show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0& color=&fullscreen=1" /> <embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=3488957&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1& show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="300"> </embed> </object>
Unfortunately we can’t let you just embed that as is into your journal pages because it could pose a security risk to other members of the community. Sure, we know you don’t want to cause trouble, but some web site out there could claim to have embeddable video, but actually be installing a virus or worm on your computer and visitors to your blogs computer.
Have no fear!
Don’t worry, we’ve got a plan to stop these would be hackers. Namely, we audit and verify that these video services are legit. And after we’ve done so, then we add some simple code to make it really easy for you to embed the video. No need for the garbledygook… just tell us the original URL for the video. Here’s how it works.
Vimeo - New!
Let’s say you wanted to embed a video from Vimeo. Well, every video on vimeo.com has it’s own page. For example, this video of my daughters kid’s marathon can be found here: http://vimeo.com/3488957. In order to embed this video on your page, you simply tell us the url, and surround it by: [vimeo] and [/vimeo]. Like this:
[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/3488957[/vimeo]
And the result is this:
So instead of having to worry about all that HTML code, we make it easier by letting you simply embed the “share” link into your blog post. This works the same for youtube, google video, iFilm, vodpod, metacafe, revver, brightcove, and bliptv. Here are some more examples:
YouTube
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ps-iuwxUDag[/youtube]
Revver
[revver]http://revver.com/video/1514117/triathlon-and-shaving-your-legs/[/revver]
Google Video
[googlevideo]http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1963355846929307611& ei=LjSwSab_D6e4qAOR6oCLBA&hl=en[/googlevideo]
MetaCafe
[metacafe]http://www.metacafe.com/watch/178805/triathlon_training_simulation/[/metacafe]
Viddler - New!
Viddler is a little different than the rest of these. Viddler actually has a button on the embed link that allows you to get a “Wordpress.com” code. We use a compatible system for embedding as wordpress.com, and so you can use that code with Sweat365.com. It will look something like this:
[viddler id=284b2076&w=437&h=370]

Why would you want to run?
Why do people run? The Runner’s Guide to the Meaning of Life says that running helps you think. Running is an undifferentiated activity, which means you don’t really need the same type of skill to run that you need to think about in other activities like golf or swimming. While your running your pumping lots of blood all throughout your body, so the brain is getting all this oxygen and doesn’t have any hard work to do. No wonder while your running a half marathon you can think so clearly. Running is a great way to exercize and clear your head.
