Hello! I am new to blogging and new to long distance running. I am training for an upcoming half marathon and while the running is going fine, I have noticed a slight weight gain. I am very diet and nutrition consciencous, I track my caloric intake regularily and have not had an increase since beginning running. I have read that this is not uncommon. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, I gained some muscle weight when I first started running further distances. I don't believe it is uncommon. You might find you are more hungry or eat more when running further as well, to make up for calories lost. If you start to gain a lot, which I doubt will happen, then look further into it. I would go on how your clothes fit and your body feels, because weight gain could mean muscle, but equal less inches around the waist at the same time!

I agree with Kate. Sometimes people tend to eat more than they realize when they are training harder and longer. The other thing that can happen is when you lay around to recover after strenuous work outs, you may be burning less calories than you normally do. It's all about balance calories in and calories out.

Also, don't forget water retention... your muscles want water to heal... and they will keep every drop they can.
