Lunch Ideas??

(5 posts)

  1. I am getting a little tired of my usual lunch selections. Any ideas you all can offer would be greatly appreciated!!! I need something cheap and pretty quick and easy to throw together in the morning. Right now I typically choose from: 1. vanilla yogurt with fruit, tuna and rice cakes. 2. Low sodium sandwhich meat, yogurt with fruit and rice cakes. 3. Natural peanut butter and no sugar jam/jelly on whole grain or wheat bread and a cheese stick. Sometimes I'll have a salad and am going to add just a simple salad of baby spinach and chicken breast into the mix. Sometimes I'll also add baby carrots or low sodium part skim string cheese to any of those options.

I try to incorporate fish into my meal plans but I have a hard time getting past the "fishy" taste. :) So I can do tuna with flavors, tilapia and occasionally shrimp depending on how it's served. If that makes any difference on what you suggest.

    Thanks again!

  2. I wonder the same thing. I want a lunch that is healthy and I don't have to refridgerate anything. I end up eating nuts, fruit, and veggies.

    I need more options.

  3. Maybe check sites like recipezaar.com where you can look up different meal ideas based on ingredients. There might be a different type of salad you can put together or something new you never thought to try. I try to mix it up each week, but tend to stick with tuna fish 2-3 days a week and then a sandwich or different kinds of soups. Sometimes I also make extra of something for dinner, to pack up the next day. With fruits and veggies, you can always add different flavors with healthy dressings or peanut butter, etc... I get into 'ruts' sometimes too and just end up eating the same things for awhile. I think it happens to everybody!

Just be creative and open to new tastes and mixtures of things...

  4. I have been bringing a Morning Star Farm burger pattie with bun and then one of those new vegetable steamers. I think that they are made by Green Giant. They have two servings of vegetables in them and I eat the entire thing for lunch. There are lots of different types. I also like to bring a can on Progresso soup-the Vegetable and Minestrone kinds are my favorite. This paired with a turkey sandwich is a perfectly filling lunch.

  5. I am addicted to Quaker's Weight Management oatmeal for breakfast. I heard about them on "The Biggest Loser" and really like it. It has 7 grams of protein and fiber added on top of carbs. I usually eat it with toast if I'm going running later, or eggs if I'm doing weights.

For lunch and dinner, a personal trainer at my gym told me that your local grocery store's rotisserie chickens are great! I love them with a salad, or thrown on bread with cheese for a quick sandwich.
