  1. I just started biking and I would like to purchase a road bike of my own; however I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for one. Where can I find a good bike for not too much money?

  2. have you checked craigslist.org? It also depends on what you'd like to get. there are plenty of "road bikes" on craigslist...but, I've always subscribed to "you get what you pay for". Best of luck to you in your search!

  3. What does a "good bike" mean to you? You need to decide on your specification (and *write it down*), and then look in places like craigslist to see what you can find.

Second had bikes are usually excellent value, but be prepared to have to wait to find the one that actually meets your spec (that's why you should write it down - so you can check the fantastic offer against what you actually want!). Also, MAKE SURE YOU GET A RECEIPT. The first second hand bike I bought was mistaken for one that'd been stolen - something that needed a LOT of explaining in the absence of a receipt!
