  1. okay, so what's the secret/strategy for dealing with the swim crowd? where should I focus on standing for the start? where should I swim? behind, middle, outside, front? how much energy should I put into the swim?

I consider the swimming is my strength, so should i try to get a good time in for the swim? but I don't want to waste energy either...

  2. I think you may get frustrated if you wait. Swimming is my weakness so I let everyone else go first, then, I go after about 10 seconds after the start. I noticed a lot of the slower swimmers wait back for a while. I would head to the beginning or the middle if you think that is your strength.

  3. For what its worth...my Tri coaches "suggest" for 1st timers to start on the outside as it is less crowded and less hectic and less combative. It will be a little bit further of a swim, but if it's your strong part then you should be able to pull ahead and get into the inside without a lot of problem.
G'luck! And know we're ALL cheering for ya!

  4. Well what works for me is to start strong depending on the distance i will "sprint" for the first 50 to 100 meters. Then i will go into my swim pace. This breaks me up from the middle so i dont have to fight for my life. Then for the last 50 to 100 meters i will "sprint" again for the finish. These sprints are not full out sprints but well above my race pace just to get me going and give me a better finish.
