  1. For the past 4 months I have been training for my first Triathlon on June 12th. It is a Sprint with distances 1/2 mile swim/17 mile ride/5 mile run. As a way of getting used to the transitions and preparing myself I was considering doing a triathlon the week before on June 8th. The distances are shorter (1/3mile/10mile/5k)so I was thinking it would be a good warm up. Will this be beneficial or detrimental before my 1st one?
    Thanks!

  4. I know myself and I wouldn't. I go into race mode and end up gunning too hard. This would obviously have an impact on the bigger more important race.

If you're able to see the 1st race as a normal training session (i.e. stay within HR zones), then go for it!

  5. Thanks for he input. I was going to view it as a training session and a way to become acclimated to the racing scene. The tri on June 14th is special since I'm fundraising money with Team in Training and was concerned I may get hurt. I think I may go ahead with it as long as my wife isn't in labor that day (she's due June 6th!)

  6. steve - congrats one soon to be new addition! Thats awesome!

The other option you have is to go and watch the tri the week before. It will give you a great indication of race day, without having to worry about actually "racing". And even though you'd use it as a training race, "things" could come up during that race that might inhibit the more important race.

(that being said, I'd go for it)

  8. there are tri training clubs that do mini tri's to help train for the transitions. That's what I will be doing.
