  1. random. the toe next to my big toe on only my right foot hurts underneath the nail, whenever i put pressure on it... so you know like whenever i MOVE basically. does anyone know whats going on? my shoes have plenty of room in the front and my nails are as short as they can be! and its only one toe on one foot!

  2. i have had that same thing happen to me before and what the strange thing was is it was only one toe out of the five.what solved the problem for me is that my shoes were being tied too tight and for some strange reason presure was being placed on that one toe when i would run and cause the ache. i tried a little thicker socks (for padding) and loosened laces towards front of shoe to were they were still snug but not over bearing on foot. good luck!

  4. I actually am having the same thing on my left foot, but I stubbed this toe about a month ago. The pain just won't go away, and it almost feels like my toenail is going to fall off. I feel your pain! I am going to try not tying my shoes so tight when I run.

  5. Try drilling a hole in the nail with a steril needle. This will releive the pressure and keep it from turning black and falling off. The cause could be from running downhill and the toe hitting against the toe box of the shoe. You can also buy toe caps at a store like REI that protect the little piggies. They are comfortable latex type slip ons ans do not cause blisters which is nice.

  6. everyone here is right. my only advice is for you not to worry at all! the worst that can happen is that the nail falls of and grows back; in the meantime, you wouldn't have a nail and your toe would heal. you can't lose! but yeah, i'd watch for your toe hitting the shoe while running downhill. i don't know about "drilling" a hole in the nail (nails are tough and needles aren't), but there's probly a blister underneath it that needs popping. i'd probly take the needle in from the front of the nail and pop the blister that way.

alternately to all of this, you could stop running for a week while it goes away. and i promise you, it will. unless it's a fractured/broken toe, in which case it wont - and you'll have the proper diagnosis AND a nice lazy week under your belt. sounds like a win-win for you

  7. Uggg...I had that happen on my left foot a few years back and it was because of the toe hitting the tip of the shoe. Now i'm getting it on my RIGHT foot...second toe. I trimmed my nails back as short as humanly possible this past week and I swear, now it seems worse. Before it was just a tad sore AFTER I ran...now, it hurts when I grip my toes in any shoe...I checked and it's not UNDER the nail but above it, above the top of the nail (where you file). Almost like I have a blister or a corner is rubbing the skin...except neither is happening.

So do the toe protectors really work? Sounds like something I might want to try...
