Strength Training for Runners

(4 posts)

  1. So it feels like I have been absent from the sweat365 community lately, which is partly true. There has been a lot going on with getting our Chicago Marathon group going and Nikki and I have been trying to finish our book - Strength Training for Runners.

I think that the topic will be of interest with some of the followers of my blog as my post, "Hip Strength in Females and Patellofemoral Pain" is still one of the most read posts that I've written.

The book has some general discussion on the value of strength training for runners, specifically looking at the research around injury prevention and performance. But the most helpful part, in my opinion, are the 4 programs that we laid out and have included the instructional photos and descriptions/tips for each exercise.

    Example:

    StarDrill

I hope that the information will be valuable to some of you as we feel like this has been a good project and we've put a lot of our experience as runners and trainers into it.

I realize that I'm promoting my own book here, but hopefully you don't feel too offended as we've tried to share a lot of our experiences and knowledge with the sweat365 community before today too.

I'd like to offer a $3.00 discount on the single copy edition to people here in the community. So if you do decide to check out the book, enter "sweat365" into the discount code section of the checkout cart and it will give you that discount.

here's the link to the book: Strength Training for Runners

We'd appreciate any feedback as we try to provide more valuable resources for runners in the future.

  2. Gary,

This e-book looks REALLY COOL! It's clear from the sample photo you included that you guys put a ton of work into developing a very solid piece of training guidance.

I encourage everyone to check out Gary's work!

  4. Thanks Brad and Kate. We did try and do things "right" once we decided to do the project. I'll be honest, the photo shoot was the most intimidating and difficult part for me. I'm not a photo / self picture guy...

... so when the photographer and art director said to use self-tanner, and started duck taping my shorts to my legs, etc...

it became not so much fun.

I plan on sharing more thoughts with everyone on this topic (more than I already have). I just recorded a new podcast the other day and should have it up tomorrow (episode 6), it discusses some of my thoughts (while running too hard and glucose deprived.)

    thanks again.
