  1. Has anyone done this off road tri?
I will be doing the Tahoe race in Oct 2008.
It will be my first tri.
I have doen a lot of MTB and running including MTB races and a marathon.

Any advice is welcome. I am especailly concerned about the 750m swim in the cold Lake Tahoe H2O

  2. I have never done an event like this, but I have to admit it sounds SO COOL!

    Good luck!

My guess is that like any other multi-sport event, the best advice is to practice EACH discipline, and then to also practice the disciplines together. (The BRICK!)

There are a couple of "alternative" multisport events in our area (Seattle) and I love it when I catch one of the teams or participants out on a training ride/run/paddle/swim/ski/whatever... I remember last year I was riding my bike and I caught up to a group of 4 riders with inflatable kayaks on their backs... they were in the middle of a bike/paddle/run BRICK training event... and to think they had to inflate their own boats!!?!%$#! That's guts!

  3. I am currentley training for the Xterra Mountain Man in August and hoping to win a qualifing spot for the Maui Xterra championship in October. I have been training for this just like I would any other Tri (what Brad posted) but have been incorperating more mountain biking into my cycling workout. Im not tring to plug a magazine but this months Triatlete magazine is pretty much dedicated to the Xterra series. Check it out. Good luck

  4. Guys, Thanks for the advice and encouragement.

One silly question. What do I wear under my wetsuit? I want to wear my usual MTB shorts for the Xterra MTB portion but what do you all suggest so I can do a quick change at transition 1?

  5. Well out here in Hawaii wetsuits are not allowed. I have a pair of shorts that you swim, cycle and run in so i will wear those for the swim and just throw a cycling shirt on for the ride and run. Shirts are mandiotry for this tri.

  6. I would suggest using "tri shorts" for the swim/bike/run... if you want to wear "baggy" shorts for the MTB ride, I'd suggest throwing them on over top of your tri shorts in T1.

    Good luck!
