  1. Hi, I'm new to this site and to fitness. I'm a 49 YOF and overweight. I have never been one to get out and have activities. I have spent most of my adult life caring for others and driving kids around. Well times they are a changing. We are not empty nesters yet, but the kids drive now and have busy lives. I'm ready to get out and get moving. I'm joining a walking club to start and hope to increase my activity as time goes by. If anyone out there in my age group who started later in life, like I am, have any words of wisdom and encouragement please feel free to blog. Thanks...

  2. Like you, I'm starting out after years of little or no activity. My best advice to you - stretch! Whether you are walking or doing strength training or anything else, stretch before, after, and even in-between workouts. It will help you avoid injuries and also lessen soreness.

  3. Way to go-I have the same status in my home, but when I noticed this was the case, I too started to get busy with my own thing. My big inspiration to get moving was doing a sprint triathlon at age 36 with a friend. I recommend doing an all-womens (like Danskin) because the environment is so supportive and inspiring. I was hooked after that and as of yesterday, completed 10 Olympic distance events in the past 6 years. In the course of training for these, I dropped 40 pounds. You won't regret this motivation to get out and be active! I am new to blogging... what is a 'YOF'?
