Hi, I'm new to this site and to fitness. I'm a 49 YOF and overweight. I have never been one to get out and have activities. I have spent most of my adult life caring for others and driving kids around. Well times they are a changing. We are not empty nesters yet, but the kids drive now and have busy lives. I'm ready to get out and get moving. I'm joining a walking club to start and hope to increase my activity as time goes by. If anyone out there in my age group who started later in life, like I am, have any words of wisdom and encouragement please feel free to blog. Thanks...

Like you, I'm starting out after years of little or no activity. My best advice to you - stretch! Whether you are walking or doing strength training or anything else, stretch before, after, and even in-between workouts. It will help you avoid injuries and also lessen soreness.

Way to go-I have the same status in my home, but when I noticed this was the case, I too started to get busy with my own thing. My big inspiration to get moving was doing a sprint triathlon at age 36 with a friend. I recommend doing an all-womens (like Danskin) because the environment is so supportive and inspiring. I was hooked after that and as of yesterday, completed 10 Olympic distance events in the past 6 years. In the course of training for these, I dropped 40 pounds. You won't regret this motivation to get out and be active! I am new to blogging... what is a 'YOF'?
