best trail running shoes

(4 posts)

  1. I've scoured the internet in search of info on trail shoes...can't find what I need so thought i'd pose the questions to y'all...

Anyone have a fave trail shoe that they just can't live without? (Women's)

I currently run in the Asics Kayano and am pretty partial to Asics in general...so was looking at that brand. However, I'm pretty open to others! I'm noticing a bit of ankle pain when I run on uneven, dirt paths so i'm thinking, trail shoes may be the way to go for long runs in that element. My current shoes don't seem stable enough for the uneven ground...just don't want something stiff and uncomfy.

  2. THE best way to get the right shoe is to go to a store like Road Runner Sports.
They have you stand barefoot on a pad that computes your weight distribution and how high your arch is. Then they video you running on a treadmill to show pronation and how much you involve your Achilles Tendon in the stride.
They then base what they shoes they show you on the results and how much mileage and type of running you do.
Their recommendation has given me a shoe that feels perfect for me.

I had bought some trail shoes that were supposed to be good before I went there and found out they were totally wrong for me! They were killing my feet!
Hope this helps. Sorry I didn't see your post sooner.

  3. I do much more trail running than road running--though hunting season makes that a little dangerous thus confined to Sundays!. I've always used the top end New Balance trail shoes. I need to get another pair, and it will likely be the WT1110GT. I use and have enjoyed NB because it is one of the few manufacturers that offers a wide size, which I need. So, I don't have lots of other mft's experience. Here's a link to a review from last year for trail running shoes: http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-240-400--11601-0,00.html

The trail behind my home is very tough. Rough terrain and very hilly--with some water too! The NB shoe has always given me the right amount of traction and foot support combined with the flexibility needed to run comfortably. The gore-tex feature on the NB is of great interest to me.

  4. Thanks Rugman and Leisa...good stuff. I ended up getting some Vasque's...haven't been running in them as of late since i've been on the street more. But, the one time I did...GREAT show. Didn't even need breaking in which was great.
When I need another pair...i'll take both of your suggestions!
