What features are MOST important on your "Dashboard"?

  1. On the "dashboard" page, you have some quick links to various features buried deeper in your dashboard/admin panel.

Which of these links and components are most important to you?

Links to common tasks (track a workout, etc)?
Display of your current workout history?
Display of your current blog stats?
Display of the most recent comments from your blog?
Display of the most recent posts from your blog?
Display of incoming links to your blog?
Display of several posts from around the community?

We are in the process of rebuilding this dashboard page, and would like to hear your feedback.

  2. Brad, you know I LOVE my blog stats! I WILL write that I did pilates in the nude to get better stats, you've read that! (God, she is so self absorbed) I also like the links to common tasks. Hey - I was going to e-mail you anyways, so I am glad you posted the question. Have you thought of having an area where people can track their food choices/caloric intake? (hope I am not missing something and asking a stupid question)

  4. need:
    - (batch) add workouts
    - ability to _customize_ charts with multiple categories of data for display on dashboard (e.g. cumulative hours + distance per week for whatever sport ...or... weekly ascent plotted with weekly mileage ...or... average weekly [sport] speed plotted against avg heart rate). Should be able to plot custom charts for any parameter tracked and add a number of these widgits to the dashboard.
    - calendar function to add planned and completed workouts (existing calendar cannot even accommodate more than 1 workout event per day and has no planning capability). would be awesome for members to have the ability to import one of the library training plans into the calendar along with the target event date and then let user customize the template along the way.
    - private message inbox linked to dashboard (in conjunction with the new forum: http://www.phpbb.com/ )

right now I really only use the weekly training hours by type & this is of limited utility because it doesn't account for training intensity.

  5. This is all great feedback. We like these ideas...

But I guess I should have been more clear... I was just asking about the "home" page of your dashboard in particular.

Are there specific things on that page that you always look at?

  6. It'd be great to see all these features we discuss available on the dashboard. mho, only, of course.

I'd like it all please! :)

  8. Ditto bigdave's comments. Anything to speed up entry of workouts is top of the list. Where do you think the stats come from. If I get backed up and have to fill in a weeks work of workouts the time sink is HUGE. First I have to hand entry all the info my Polar HRM and other slick devices have already uploaded to my computer. Then I get to practice my typing skills reentering common workouts over and over.

The Dashboard links to add activity and add daily info are what I use the most. IMHO all effort should be concentrated on getting the workout info (both planning and results) into the system.

  9. I have to agree that anything to speed-up workout entries (multiple ones) is a plus. I usually use the orange box after signing in to track my workouts and don't seem to use the dashboard as much, unless looking for stats/logs, etc...

  10. One of the things we are adding to the entire "dashboard" section is pull-down menus, that will allow you to jump directly to the section of the dashboard you want, without having to click through multiple layers of menus. In our early alpha testing, we find that this speeds up the general navigation in the dashboard section.

We are also adding the orange box to the main dashboard home page.

@Kate -- You've been a vocal advocate for easy access to stats... has your view on that changed? What stats are most interesting at a glance? Page views Today?

@everyone - The current "dashboard home" shows you your most recent posts... Is this useful? I've never really thought it made sense, because, you were the one that wrote those posts, so why do you need to see a list of them?

The current "dashboard home" also shows you the most recent comments. Now, that seems useful to me. Who else likes that feature?

  11. The orange box works about the same as the dashboard. It took me a while though to realize that "track weight" was the same as "add daily record" and "track workout" was the same as "add activity". I think more consistency should be a priority of any user interface update.

Not sure how much can be gained with pull downs on the dashboard. I guess you could have a pull down under workout/activity that would let you pick a sport and fill in that field automatically but that's not a big time saver as the default is right most of the time anyway.

Bulk editing of workouts/posts/day info would be a major improvement. Being able to separate the three would also be a big help. Right now when you go to manage posts you get all three flavors mixed together. It seems to me this is where you can get the most bang for the buck with an upgrade.

Next on the list would be enhanced import of data. The basic structure is there so it doesn't seem like a whole lot of work to implement additional support.

Planning and a calendar interface to schedule workouts for a season or a peak event would be huge but would entail a lot of work. A good first step would be including the ability to copy workouts to dates that are in the future.
