  1. Hello everyone. I am scheduled to run my first half marathon on September 20th. Just a couple days ago I started feeling some tightness in my left knee...not pain, just some weirdness. I have been running regularly for a months, gradually increasing my mileage. I stretch well before and after my runs and I do not go consecutive days most of the time. Recently I started adding some longer runs to my routine in prep for the half marathon. I usually run 5-6 miles and have added some runs from 7-9 miles. The longer runs I do at around an 8 minute pace while the 5 mile runs I do at around a 7 minute pace. I don't want to aggrevate my knee any more, but I feel like I need to keep going for this upcoming race. Can anyone give me some good recommendations?

  2. Are you following a good stretching routine? Have you had a massage lately? It sounds like you have some tight muscles... I know I get tightness in my knees when my IT band is tight... I use a foam roller to role out my IT Band. Or my massage therapist really gets in there to help loosen me up.

  3. That is kind of the same thing I am thinking. I don't have the, um, financial resources to have regular massages. I assumed I had a good stretching routine. Perhaps it's not as good as I thought. Can you walk me through what I should be doing?

  4. get a foam roller tube...they use it in pilates. There are exercises you can do that mimic a deep tissue massage by using your body weight...can massage the IT band, hammies, quads...might help! Google the exercises...
