OK,I'm still planning on running the half Marathon in March in Orlando. I have been building up my miles but still not come to terms with actually running or even exercising for 2 and 1/2 hours or more, all at one time! There is a half marathon in November , here in Fort Lauderdale. Local, nice weather, most of the course will be flat. I would like input on whether or not to attempt it, even if it may be run/walk for me. It is daunting but at least I can see whether I can go the time/distance before really committing to the one in March, 200 miles away. What do you think?

go for it, what have you got to lose. the worst thing that will happen is that you will have to walk. I have found on race day I always step it up and do better than I thought I would. and all of the people around you will help keep you motivated, so go for it

Do it. Plan on walking a bit, perhaps through every water station. You'll do fine and the accomplishment will be awesome.

All the above is great advice> I say do it and see what happens. If you have to walk the majority of the course, that is okay. At least it will give you an indication of how to train for the next marathon.

OK I needed to hear that it was not a stupid idea of mine. Thanks for the support. I will take each mile as I get to it and walk when I need too. Thanks

Hey there...try doing 1/1 intervals! That way you save your knees, hips, breath, etc...but are still running. Meaning, run a minute/walk a minute for the whole race. That's what we're doing for our 1/2 marathon in Nov...and we've been training that way as well. Works great! Then, you can work on improving for the next one. :) I use a watch on intervals...beeps every minute so I know when to walk and when to run...

I am not sure if I could keep track of the one minute thing. I know I can run 4 miles comfortably and am thinking of doing a 4 mile run/1 mile walk with maybe or should I say probably an adjustment as I go along. I am such a "lets not waste time type of person" so the 1/1 sounds like I would be very frustrated and might even give up. Hey I swim with fins just to get to the other side faster and not waste time.
