Looking around this site is inspiring - nearly everyone is a high octane cardio road warrior. Impressive and inspiring as I am 5'11 with maybe as much as 30% fat and a whopping 230lbs. At my weight (at the moment) 20 minutes of walking is about all the cardio I can frequently do without risking joint and bone stress damage.
In one way that's pretty sad. In other ways I see it as a unique opportunity: I can aim to lose fat over time by building a large furnace of muscle that will take more calories to maintain in both exercise and rest. As my passion is snowboarding, my resistance training will deal with a lot of core stability, leg strength and balance work. Real full-body, sweat-inducing, feel-the-burn type of stuff. The first snows and open resorts will beckon in 6 months time, so where would I be fitness-wise at that point?
Well, I think the dream answer to that would be with 25lbs more muscle than I have now and 55lbs less fat. That would make me 200lbs and 8% body fat! I would be much heavier than the typical 5'11 healthy male of 150 and 12% body fat, but I would actually have less fat than he does.
Of course I have a plan (food, supplementation, exercise, rest), but I would appreciate any advice from others on this site who can help me (or chop me back down to size - nicely please).
